Worth knowing

EDT done properly can cut your first-year insurance.

Most Irish insurers offer a discount to new drivers who finish EDT with an RSA-registered school and keep a completed logbook. Depending on the insurer, that's between €XX and €XX off your first-year premium. Ask your insurer for their EDT-completion rate.

We'll share the logbook upload proof with you so you can claim it.

Walk through EDT
Before you book

Questions we answer on the phone, answered here.

What is EDT?
Essential Driver Training. Twelve one-hour lessons. Set by the RSA. Every learner who got a category B permit on or after 4 April 2011 has to do it before sitting the test.
Do the lessons have to run in order?
Lesson 1 first, always. Lessons 2 to 8 in any order after that. Lessons 9 to 12 only after 2 to 8 are logged on the RSA system. Lesson 12 has to be after dark. That's the RSA rule, not ours.
How long does the full EDT take?
The RSA recommends a two-week gap between lessons, and a six-month span overall. That maps onto the six-month compulsory learner period you have to serve before you can sit the test anyway. Most learners finish EDT inside that window.
What's the learner alcohol limit?
20 milligrams per 100 millilitres of blood. A single pint puts you over. That's five times tighter than the full-licence limit.
Will I pass the driving test after EDT?
EDT gets you ready to start getting ready. The national pass rate is just over half. Most Dublin test centres sit below that. Most learners need pre-test lessons on top of the twelve.
What if I fail the test?
You resit it. Most people who fail the first time pass the second. We'll get you back on test-route pre-test lessons inside six weeks.
Can I change instructors mid-EDT?
Yes. The logbook stays with you. The previous instructor signs it over. Text the office and we'll sort it.
What do I need before my first lesson?
Your learner permit (plastic card, issued by NDLS) and whatever eyewear you normally drive in. We supply the car, the logbook, and the L-plates.
Ready

Lesson 1 is where it starts.
